ABOUT DESERT'S GOT TALENT SHOWCASE PRODUCTION
Our fourth annual production on May 2 for youth and adults alike will be FUN and INSPIRING. The opening musical number introduces the mission of Boo2Bullying--namely, eliminating all forms of bullying and discrimination that victimize young people in local schools, neighborhoods, online and at home. Thereafter, you'll be entertained by 10 very different contestants and an all star band competing for prizes that will be decided by the audience and celebrity judges.
Grammy-nominated jazz singer-songwriter Chris Bennett is our fabulous Musical Director. Emcee for the evening is Bryan Gallo, NBC Palm Springs Weathercaster.
The purpose of Desert's Got Talent is two-fold: (1) to give performers the opportunity to self-express, promote unity against bullying and intolerance, and encourage, educate and engage our communities; and (2) to raise awareness and funds for Boo2Bullying programs and new initiatives.
Like last year's show which featured contestants of all ages and income levels, the 3rd Annual Desert's Got Talent production provides an opportunity for young people and adults to showcase their diverse talents, build interpersonal relationships, and promote unity with their peers and others in a welcoming atmosphere that celebrates differences and self-expression.
There were tearful moments as well when Charlene and Fred Avila accepted Boo2Bullying’s first “Spotlight Achievement Award” and shared the story of persistent bullying that led their precious 13-year-old daughter to take her own life.Since that tragic day, the Avilas have dedicated their lives to assisting grieving families and anti-bullying organizations and legislation.
Film and TV actresses Laura and Vanessa Marano were given Boo2Bullying’s inaugural “Youth Empowerment Award”in recognition of their efforts to inspire young people to speak out against bullying, sex trafficking and related social issues.
Founded in 2011, Boo2Bullying provides outreach, education, mentoring, inspiration and support for youth and their families. We are a consortium of artists and visionaries dedicated to transforming this generation into one of strength and empowerment. We seek to eradicate bullying, intolerance and discrimination by educating schools and parents about accepting diversity and giving young people the tools to connect with and positively impact those around them.
